  • FRIDAY, FEB. 17

    • Ensemble Seating  - 10:00a-10:30a

      • 7th Grade: Rehearsal in the large band room (#1613, a.k.a. Band Room #3). Cases stored on sides of the room, not at the front or back of the room.

      • 8th Grade: Rehearsal in the main band room (New Band Building Large Rehearsal Room, a.k.a. Band Room #1). Cases stored on sides of the room, not at the front or back of the room.

      • 9th Grade: Rehearsal on the UPAC Auditorium stage.  Cases stored neatly in the wings of the stage.

    • 1st Rehearsal – 10:30a-12:30p

      • BREAKS

        • 7th Gr: 11:30a [backstage bathrooms]

        • 8th Gr: 11:40a [band building bathrooms]

        • 9th Gr: 11:50a [UPAC Lobby bathrooms]

    • Lunch – 12:30-2:00p

    • 2nd Rehearsal – 2:00-5:00p

      • PERCUSSION rotate to Saturday AM rehearsal space (8th and 9th Gr bands swap) before departing for the day.

    • BUILDINGS OPEN - 8:30am

    • 3rd Rehearsal – 9:00a-12:00p

      • Before departing to lunch, ALL INSTRUMENT CASES and PERCUSSION rotate to Saturday PM warm-up space: 7th Gr to stage, 8th Gr to Large Band Room (#1613).   9th Gr remain in Band Building Main Band Room.

    • Lunch – 12:00p

    • Dress into concert attire - 1:15p

    • Warm-Up – 1:30-2:00p

    • Light refreshments available for directors in Atrium until approx 1:45pm

    • Concerts: Union PAC (free admission)

      • Audience Doors Open at 1:45p

      • 7th Grade - 2:00p

      • 8th Grade - 2:30p (approx)

      • 9th Grade - 3:00p (approx)

STUDENT REMINDERS

  • Students will bring pencils to all rehearsals.

  • Students will bring the NBDA music folder.

MUSIC STANDS

All music stands will be provided; no need to bring folding stands.

BUS PROCEDURES

  • Directors should lead their drivers to the MAIN BUS LOOP of Union High School (66th & Mingo) to unload and load passengers.

  • Bus Parking

    • Friday: Buses park in the lot southwest of the UMAC arena (just north of Sam’s Club).

    • Saturday: Buses park in the lot southwest of the UMAC arena (just north of Sam’s Club) OR in the Northeast visitors lot of Union High School if space allows.

PARKING

  • Directors traveling in personal vehicles should park in Northeast visitors parking lot.

  • For the Saturday concerts, parents & spectators will park in the Union High South Main Lot and enter the “South PAC / Gym” doors. Red campus signs will direct campus visitors to this location; please pass along word to the parents of participating students that GPS/Google/Waze mapping is not likely to lead them to this parking lot, so they will need to follow campus signage.

  • Please note that vehicles of any type may NOT be parked in the bus loop at any time.

BUILDING ENTRY and SECURITY

  • Under the UNION HIGH SCHOOL sign located on the bus loop is a set of glass doors that students and directors may enter; the bus loop security fence is generally locked but should be available during bus drop-off times.

  • Adults entering the building, will so by way of the Union H.S. South Entry (PAC / Gym);  be prepared to present your photo ID.  ID will not be needed on Saturday.

  • Directors may be able to enter the campus buildings via the bus loop doors into to the band building.

  • Security is fairly tight on campus, and most perimeter exterior doors are likely to be locked; please refrain propping doors for any reason.

PERCUSSION

All large percussion (on wheels: keyboards, timpani, bass drum, tam) instruments will be provided. Contact Garett Garett Dwyer with questions.


LUNCH

Woodland Hills Mall has a large food court. There are also several other local restaurant choices, but Woodland Hills is probably the most convenient choice. Buses should plan to pick up students in the same location as drop-off.


HOSPITALITY

The director’s hospitality room is located in the upper floor Fine Arts Atrium and  will have refreshments courtesy of the Union Band Parents Club on Friday (10a-12:30p + 2-4p) and Saturday at the directors meeting (breakfast) and approx 1-4p (light refreshments).


POLICIES CONCERNING ATTENDANCE & CONDUCT FOR N.B.D.A. ALL-DISTRICT BAND PARTICIPATION

•  Absence from a full morning or afternoon rehearsal session will result in the automatic termination of the participant.
•  The ensemble chairperson will deal with any absence or substantial tardiness after consultation with the clinician and the students’ band director. The chairperson’s decision will be final.
•  The ensemble chairperson will also have the authority and responsibility to lower chair positions and/or remove the student from the band if his/her conduct in any way become a problem. The chairperson is expected to support the clinician in matters concerning student conduct.
•  If a student is not able to attend the clinic or concert, please have your director contact the district president and chairperson so an alternate can be contacted. In addition, please send your folder with your director to the clinic for the other players to use.
•  Student must bring at least one pencil to the rehearsals.
•  Students must practice all music prior to the clinic.
